New Team Member: Cristina Ampatzidou

Cristina Ampatzidou is a new PhD researcher in the project “Playing with Urban Complexity”, which will investigate to what extent computer games and novel game approaches can support participatory processes in urban design and development. The research will be supervised by Dipl-Ing. Dr Katharina Gugerell (co-promotor), Prof. Gert de Roo (promotor) from the Faculty of Spatial Sciences and Dr Oswald Devisch (Univ. Hasselt, Belgium)
Cristina has a background in Architecture (Dipl. AUTH) and Urbanism (MSc TU Delft) and prior to her appointment at the University of Groningen, she worked as a researcher in the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam investigating the affordances of new media for ‘citymaking’ and the changing roles of professional designers, policy makers and citizens. She is an editor in-chief of Amateur Cities, a new online publishing platform focusing about urbanism, citizenship and innovation. She is also a regular contributor to several urbanism and architecture magazines and a collaborator of the Architecture Film Festival of Rotterdam. In the past Cristina has been a guest teacher at TU Delft, collaborated with “Play the City!” foundation and worked for several architecture offices in the Netherlands.
